Study on Extraction of Lacquer Urushiol from the Secondary Phloem of Toxicodendron vernicifluum and the Antioxidant Activity of the Urushiol

At present study, the secondary phloem of T. vernicifluum taken from a lacquer-producing area of China was used as the experimental material to extract urushiol, and the Folin-Ciocalteu (FC) colorimetric method was employed to test the content of the extracted urushiol. Meanwhile, the antioxidant activity of urushiol has also been discussed. Research results showed that the extraction yield, ca. 1.45mg/g, and the reducing power, ca. 0.55, are the highest when the liquid-to-material ratio, extraction temperature and time are 60:1, 30℃ and 50 minutes, respectively. The results also showed that the urushiol of T. vernicifluum has a strong degree of antioxidant activity.
